Traded Protein Shakes for Coffee: The Devolution of an Athletic Trainer

Hi, I'm Justin Ortiz
Based in the Bay Area | Athletic Trainer by Trade | Digital Lego Architect by Choice
For over 10 years, I've been "fixing" humans in sports orthopedic medicine. Recently, I decided to pivot my focus from taping ankles to prompting AI.
In 2015, while I was in college, I watched the coding wave pass me by. At the time, I thought it was a skill too difficult to learn, so I stayed in my lane. But as the years went on, I saw people regardless of their major or profession adding tech to their toolbox and gaining a massive edge.
With this next wave of AI, I've decided I'm done being a passenger. I don't want to be like the people of the past who ignored the internet, or like our parents trying to navigate an iPhone for the first time. Staying current isn't just a hobby; it's an investment in staying relevant.
During a recent "funemployment" stint, I had some much-needed decompression time. I realized that while I had spent a decade mastering one singular craft, I wanted to be more broadly useful.
As subscription prices rise and our actual ownership of tools decreases, I felt my self-reliance slipping away. I was tired of depending on someone else's app for every small task. I wanted to apply the passion I have for organization, structure, and procedure. Skills I've honed over a decade to building things myself.
I'm not here to build the next billion-dollar Silicon Valley unicorn. Instead, I've realized that AI is basically a giant bucket of digital Legos. Rather than following a rigid instruction manual or paying for a pre-built "set" (looking at you, expensive subscriptions), I'm learning to snap the bricks together myself.
My Goal: To become "digitally bespoke" and prove that anyone can build something cool if they have the right blocks.
On this site, I'm here to:
- Share my "oops, that didn't work" moments.
- Document my journey toward digital independence.
- Prove that "bespoke" isn't just for fancy suits — it's for my software, too.
Welcome to the building site. 🛖 Currently building, breaking, and rebuilding my way to digital independence. 🧱 Please wear a hard hat. 👷♂️
PS If you made it this far and share an interest in Golf or Magic: The Gathering, reach out! I'm always down for a game of Commander or a casual 9-hole round. Let's Link Up
